What Are Fem-Wearables, and Why Do They Matter?
The wearable technology industry has revolutionized how we monitor and interact with our health. Devices like smartwatches, fitness trackers, and even clothing embedded with sensors have empowered users to take charge of their wellness in ways that were once unimaginable. However, while wearables have been designed to track primarily non-invasive parameters—including heart rate, steps taken, and blood pressure—one critical aspect of health has been largely overlooked: women’s unique physiology and anatomy. This unique physiology provides access to parameters considered invasive, such as the biochemistry of blood. Unlike home or lab non-invasive sampling of urine, sweat, tears, saliva, and feces—which are collected instantly and do not require long-term collecting tools—the female body offers something completely unique and different. You probably already guessed it; I’m referring to the vaginal cavity and its secretions. This is where the emerging category of Fem-Wearables steps in.
What Are Fem-Wearables?
One of our major challenges at Gals Bio is to explain exactly what we are doing and how it will revolutionize women’s wellness and health. This is how the new phrase “Fem-Wearables” came to life.
Fem-Wearables is a new category of wearable device technology specifically designed to address and support women’s health and wellness, considering their unique anatomy and needs. Unlike traditional wearables that offer generic health tracking, Fem-Wearables focus on monitoring, managing, screening, and even treating aspects specific to the female body, or more precisely, everyone with a vaginal cavity. This includes any vaginal devices that can be placed in the vaginal cavity for long durations without interfering with normal activities such as sports, sleeping, working, etc. In principle, the first two devices within this category are tampons and menstrual cups; however, they have no health-related benefits. As an analogy, this is similar to the difference between a regular watch and a wearable smartwatch.
Nonetheless, in the market, there are tampons with medications, like Daye’s tampon coated with CBD for menstrual pain. Another example is the pH tampon from Albad, and the Florgynal probiotic tampon from Saforelle. There are other examples as well. However, leveraging the vaginal cavity and its secretions for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes is a relatively new concept. Therefore, the introduction of the Fem-Wearables category aims to bridge the gap in healthcare technology by offering solutions that cater specifically to the needs of women, empowering them with tools for better self-care, monitoring, and decision-making.
Why Are Fem-Wearables Important?
- Closing the Gender Health Gap Women’s health has historically been underserved in both research and healthcare innovation. Many existing technologies are developed with male physiology as the baseline, leaving women’s unique needs unaddressed. Fem-Wearables aim to fill this void, providing tools that prioritize women’s health and well-being.
- Empowerment Through Data With Fem-Wearables, women will be able to access actionable insights into their health. For example, devices like Tulipon by Gals Bio enable menstruators to monitor biomarkers such as vaginal pH and menstrual flow volume. These insights can lead to better self-awareness, early detection of potential health issues, and more informed discussions with healthcare providers.
- Breaking Taboos Many aspects of women’s health, such as menstruation, are still considered taboo in various cultures. Fem-Wearables help normalize these topics by providing practical, science-backed solutions. By incorporating these tools into daily life, users contribute to a broader conversation about the importance of openly discussing and addressing women’s health.
- Improved Health Outcomes Early detection and monitoring of health changes can significantly improve outcomes. For example, monitoring menstrual irregularities or changes in vaginal pH can serve as early indicators of conditions like endometriosis, infections, or hormonal imbalances.
How Are Fem-Wearables Different from Traditional Wearables?
- Focus on Women-Specific Health Needs As stated above, traditional wearables are designed with general health tracking in mind. Fem-Wearables, on the other hand, are engineered specifically for women’s anatomy and health, addressing needs that have been overlooked by mainstream products.
- Innovative Biomarker Monitoring Unlike generic wearables, Fem-Wearables focus on biomarkers that are unique to women, such as menstrual flow, hormonal fluctuations, and fertility indicators. These devices go beyond tracking steps or calories burned to offer deeper insights into reproductive health and overall well-being.
- Privacy and Comfort Fem-Wearables are designed to be used in private, comfortable settings. For instance, Tulipon combines the functionality of a menstrual cup and a tampon, offering a discreet, user-friendly way to collect and analyze menstrual flow. This contrasts with the often-public nature of smartwatches and fitness bands.
Focus on Education and Community Fem-Wearables are not just about individual use; they often come with educational resources and foster communities where users can share experiences and insights. This community-oriented approach distinguishes them from

The Future of Fem-Wearables
The Fem-Wearables category represents a significant step forward in health technology. As more companies invest in this space, we can expect innovations that further empower women to take control of their health. From tracking fertility to monitoring post-partum recovery and managing menopause, the potential applications are vast and transformative.
By focusing on inclusivity and addressing previously ignored health needs, Fem-Wearables are not just a technological innovation; they are a movement toward a more equitable, personalized and from home healthcare future. At Gals Bio, we are proud to be at the forefront of this revolution with Tulipon, our first Fem-Wearable device. Together, let’s unlock the potential of women’s health and pave the way for a better, more informed future.
