With over 20 years in pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs, my role centers on managing regulatory requirements, a task demanding high commitment and responsibility to ensure the availability of effective and safe medications. This job requires adaptability to evolving regulations and a knack for finding equilibrium amidst contradictions, blending experience and analysis to navigate the grey areas between existing and innovative therapies.
In the competitive pharmaceutical landscape, where timing is crucial, maintaining high energy and productivity is essential. A mentor once highlighted the importance of stepping back to gain a broader perspective, suggesting a ‘bird’s eye view’ approach for reevaluating complex issues.
But disengaging goes beyond brief breaks; it involves meaningful detachment to engage in activities that uplift the soul. For me, that activity is lyrical dance—an art form previously foreign to my life. Lyrical dance demands classical technique, bodily connection, and emotional release, presenting a unique challenge that seemed perfectly aligned with my needs.
In a realm defined by strict regulations, the dance floor became a space for unbridled expression, where judgments fade and only the movement matters. The challenge was not just in the physicality of dance but in memorizing sequences of movements—a stark departure from our reliance on digital media. This process of learning and associating steps with music and rhythm taught me patience and self-compassion.
This journey into lyrical dance has offered a valuable counterbalance to my professional life, reminding me daily of my strengths and fostering a sense of self-confidence. It’s a testament to the power of finding personal fulfillment beyond work, enabling a sustainable balance between professional obligations and personal well-being.
In conclusion, whether through dance or any other pursuit that liberates the soul, finding a meaningful way to disengage is crucial for maintaining balance. It enriches not just our personal lives but also enhances our professional performance, ensuring we can thrive in the long run.
